Not Swimming

On many trips there is something I think will happen and doesn't. I think this time it's swimming.

We didn't swim at the lake near Amsterdam because there was a music festival in the way, we didn't swim in the sea because frankly although sunny it wasn't that warm and today we also did not go swimming, because it was wet (as in raining, not just the lake, though that was obviously also wet), miserable and the green scum line on the lake just wasn't that inviting.

So we hung out in the tent and discussed giraffes and their interactions and if Hannah should write a book about it.

Before we didn't go swimming we did go cycling!

We started with an excellent breakfast of randomly selected bakery goods. This was a particular win as it was a holiday day so I thought everywhere might be shut.

Then things got a little wobbly as the route I'd plotted took us off road. Not nice cycle path off road but a dirt track come mud path. It was okay, we deployed our mountain biking skills, usually displayed with the aid of a luggage free, full sus bike but we both stayed upright.

This problem is caused in part by the fact their is no google street view in Germany, as it was deemed an intrusion into peoples right to privacy. Which I do understand but it is bloody annoying when planning routes and trying to decide if a road looks nice or is in fact a road.

After that little excitement I decided a stop was needed and thanks to a little help from our favourite privacy invading, world domination seeking, search engine we found our way to an ice cream shop.

I had an iced coffee, this sounds fairly restrained in a ice cream shop. It had coffee, ice cream, chocolate bits, actual cream and was absolutely amazing! Hannah had something with fruit in it, so one of her 5 a day.

This fuelled us onwards, even up one or two gentle rises. Not yet hills and certainly no mountain but the truly flatness is over.

We continued to camping, where we did not go swimming.
